Credit card debt reductions rise as banks write off credit card debt
New figures released by the Bank of England show that UK banks and other financial institutions continue to write off debt from credit cards. The first quarter of 2010 saw a £1.25 billion rise, the second highest quarterly amount of credit card debt on record.
In the same quarter the number of repossessions in the UK fell from 10,600 in the previous three months, a 7.5% reduction to 9,800. Mortgage debt write-offs fell to the lowest figure in 18 months, due to rising house prices and the fall in repossessions.
